BNC teams compete in 2nd CC meetPETOSKEY — The Gaylord cross country teams battled wet and windy conditions Tuesday at the second Big North Conference meet in Petoskey, with the Blue Devil boys taking second and the girls placing fourth.

Coach Jeff Kalember said the Blue Devil boys ran about as well as they did two weeks ago when they won their first-ever BNC meet, but Traverse City West improved mightily to win the meet.

For Gaylord, senior Jayden Hesselink finished sixth (17:30), junior Bryan Slocum was seventh (17:36), junior Joe Jones was 13th (17:55), freshman Charlend Howard was 14th (17:56), freshman Nate Fischer was 16th (18:11), sophomore Sean Hope was 25th (18:36) and sophomore Lucas Avenall was 28th (18:46).

West’s Seb Kucera won the race with a time of 17:14.

The Blue Devil girls welcomed back juniors Amanda Olds and Anna Kassuba, who missed the first race because of injury and sickness. Gaylord began to close the gap between Traverse City West and Alpena, who tied for second. Traverse City Central breezed to the victory.
