The first major local cross country meet of the season will draw a lot of attention across the state.

Hanover-Horton High School’s girls team soundly defeated Leslie in the teams’ first head-to-head meeting this season in the Division 2 race at the Springport Invitational on Wednesday.

The Comets had four finishers in the top five, including winner Lindsey Burdette, and scored 21 points to second-place Leslie’s 40.

Paul Lewis finished first while leading Albion to the top spot in the Division 2 boys race.

Concord swept the Division 3 team events as the Yellow Jackets’ Kyle Stacks won the boys race and Homer’s Nicole Wurster won the girls race. In Division 1, Northwest’s Mary Lehman won the girls race, and Napoleon’s Blake Garver won the boys race as Stockbridge won as a team.
