Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Ariel Roberts named the 2009 Ann Arbor News Girls Track Athlete of the Year

There were just a handful of meets remaining in her high school career, and Ariel Roberts still had not reached the one individual goal she had set for herself this season.

After setting a Division 1 State Meet record of 5 feet, 9 inches in the high jump in 2008 (breaking a record that she tied at the 2007 state meet), Roberts, a Pioneer High school senior, had hoped to clear 5-10 sometime this season.

It finally came, on a drizzly day at Saline High School, at a Division 1 regional. Roberts finally soared to a new height.
