DAVISBURG — Finishing 1-2-3 in a cross country meet is a feat typically saved for a dominating dual meet victory.

The Pioneer High School boys team pulled off the trifecta Saturday in the Division I race of the Holly Invitational, one of the largest meets in the Midwest.

Nathan Karr nipped Pioneer teammate Nick Kern at the line in a photo finish, with both runners recording times of 15:45. Those were the fastest times of the day in all five divisions.

Adam Kern finished third, just five seconds behind his teammates, helping the Pioneers cruise to a team title at Springfield Oaks County Park.

Coach Don Sleeman, in his 42nd year leading the Pioneer program, doesn’t remember such a dominating performance.
