WYOMING — Shrieks of joy, tears and hugs overcame the Allendale girls track and field team as the winner was announced at Friday’s O-K Silver Conference meet at Kelloggsville.

Thirty years of frustration were replaced by euphoria.

The Falcons captured their first conference championship since 1979 by edging perennial powerhouse Kent City 124-122.

The loss ended Kent City’s seven-year reign atop the conference standings. Calvin Christian finished third with 102 1/2 points.
In the boys meet, Allendale used depth to win for the third year in a row, totaling 130 points. Hopkins and Kent City tied for second with 96 points each.
