Albion boys, Western girls win SMAA track and field jamboree

Todd Atchison and Ryan Hopson each won four events to help the Albion High School boys track team edge Western in the first Southern Michigan Activities Association jamboree of the season.

Albion totaled 996 points to Western’s 9711⁄2.

Atchison won the 100 and 200, and Hopson won the high jump and long jump. They teamed up with Dion Mitchell and Darius Cage to win the 400 relay and Patrick Dewalt and Mitchell to win the 800 relay.

Brandon Hoffman led Western with victories in the 800, 1,600 and 1,600 relay.

In the girls meet, Meggan Freeland led Western to first place with 970 points. Albion finished second with 9221⁄2.

Freeland won the 800 and 1,600. Amelia Bannister won the 100 and 400 and was a member of Albion’s winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams.
