Instead, they finished No. 4.

The Albion High boys' track and field team – the two-time defending MHSAA Division 3 state champions – had a total of 25 points on Saturday at Comstock Park High to place fourth this time around.

First as a team in D-3 was Vassar with 40 points, followed by Frankenmuth with 33 and Allendale with 31.

The highest finisher by any of Albion's state-meet competitors on Saturday was a third-place effort by Dion Mitchell in the long jump (21-7.75).

Also for the Wildcats, Darius Crum was sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.39); Paul Lewis was fifth in the 1,600-meter run (4:21.84); the 400-meter relay unit placed fifth (44.18); Kyle Harris was seventh in the shot put (48-4.75); Jalen Weaver was eighth in the 800-meter run (1:57.91); and Lewis was fourth in the 3,200-meter run (9:29.98).

Also at the D-3 finals, Union City had 16 points and Bronson had 14 points.
