College notes: Grand Valley State cross country teams win regional championships

For Grand Valley State, cross country regional championships have come hand in hand with conference titles.

This season is no different.

After the men’s and women’s teams won Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns two weeks ago, they each captured regional titles Saturday — making it eight in a row for the men and nine consecutive for the women — in Kenosha, Wis.

The Grand Valley men scored 38 points to finish 50 points ahead of second-place Saginaw Valley State, with Cedar Springs standout Tyler Emmorey leading the way with a finish of 32 minutes, 22 seconds.

The Lakers, Saginaw Valley State and Southern Indiana each advanced to the national finals Nov. 21 in Evansville, Ind.
