The Hamilton girls cross country team won the Division 2 regional title at Portage Saturday with a total of 51 points, 27 points better than runner-up Otsego.

It was a clean sweep for the East Kentwood cross country program at the Division 1 regional hosted by Buchanan at Portage on Saturday.

The boys team won the team title with 73 points, 17 points better than runner-up Caledonia. East Kentwood senior Isaac Cox won the boys race with a time of 15 minutes, 59.5 seconds.

The East Kentwood girls team won with 47 points, 15 points better than runner-up Grand Haven. Grandville also qualified for next week’s state finals at Michigan International Speedway by coming in third with 74 points.

East Kentwood’s Alissa Williams won the girls race with a time of 18:11.8.

UNIVERSITY CENTER — Ogemaw Heights’ Martin Nelkie claimed the Division 2 individual regional cross-country title Saturday, Oct. 31 at Delta College, where he crossed the line first in 16:35.1.

Nelkie also led the OHHS boys team to a berth in the state meet as the Falcons place third.

The top three teams and top 15 individual finishers qualify for the state meet.

In the girls’ Division 2 race, OHHS finished 10th. Cheyenne St. Andrew led the Falcons’ effort by placing 40th in 22:25.
