AUBURN HILLS — Even with three of its top runners playing in a Greenhills soccer game, the Gryphons’ boys cross country team cruised to a team win at the Auburn Hills Oakland Christian Small School Invitational on Tuesday.
Just three runners scored at the meet. Greenhills’ Jeff Bord (2nd, 17:40), James Chamness (4th, 19:31) and Ashwin Fujii (5th, 19:50) gave the Gryphons a team score of 11. Royal Oak Shrine was their closest competition at the 12-team event, scoring 26 points.
Although his score didn’t count, Greenhills’ Eddie Kelly was still in the top 10, finishing ninth in 20:02.
Coach Jim Hare said the course was muddy and slow after a heavy rain that fell during the girls’ race, which preceded the boys’ run.
Mitchell Dale of host Oakland Christian won the race in 17:25.
