Area runners top boys, girls race at Cavalier Classic

Alex Smith | The Flint Journal, September 02, 2009 9:09 p.m.

His plan was to hold out his top runners three girl runners, which included Alexandria Dawson, Shivani Kaushal and Gabrielle Anzalone.

In the end, he decided to let Anzalone run, which proved to be a good move, as she blew away the field by nearly two full minutes with her winning time of 18:40.24 in the girls race. Swartz Creek’s Casey Campbell finished second in 20:34.66.

White Lake Lakeland, one of Grand Blanc’s newest competitors in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association, placed three runners in the top five and five in the top 10 to win 30-62 over Grand Blanc.

Overall, not a bad day for the Bobcats in their first meet of the season.

Reed Kamyszek wants to see his teammates this November at Michigan International Speedway.

Last year, the Kenowa Hills senior won the Division 2 state championship at MIS, minus his team, and would love nothing more than to run with the rest of the Knights on the sport’s biggest stage.

“I want to defend,” said Kamyszek, who ran a personal-best 15:32 at the title meet. “I want to go out there and have good races all season, but really want to go out and have a good state meet this year. And aside from individual stuff, I really want to qualify for state as a team. We have a young team, but they are showing signs that we can run fast.
