Calvin College women’s cross country team named preseason No. 1 in Division III by coaches

The first tryouts haven’t even happened yet, and the first meet is less than two weeks away, but the Calvin College women’s cross country team is attracting national attention.

The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association voted the Knights as the preseason No. 1 team in Division III, an honor it shares with Middlebury College in Vermont. Middlebury won the national title last year.

Calvin won the MIAA and Great Lakes Regional crowns last year and took second behind Middlebury at nationals.

“I guess we came into the season with our hopes set pretty high at winning nationals this year, but we still have to prove ourselves,” former Grand Rapids Christian standout Jessica Koster said.
“We’re not going to take anything for granted.”
