Big Dog Track Club runners place at meet
SOUTHFIELD — Three members of the Big Dog Track Club placed Saturday at the Amateur Athletics Union track & field state meet.
Trevor Lumpkins, 13, of Jeddo took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 13 seconds at Southfield High School.

Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Ariel Roberts named the 2009 Ann Arbor News Girls Track Athlete of the Year

There were just a handful of meets remaining in her high school career, and Ariel Roberts still had not reached the one individual goal she had set for herself this season.
After setting a Division 1 State Meet record of 5 feet, 9 inches in the high jump in 2008 (breaking a record that she tied at the 2007 state meet), Roberts, a Pioneer High school senior, had hoped to clear 5-10 sometime this season.
It finally came, on a drizzly day at Saline High School, at a Division 1 regional. Roberts finally soared to a new height.

Shannon O’Connor of DeWitt, Michigan competed in the AAU Track and Field Michigan District Qualifier meet held this past weekend at Southfield High School. Running as a Sub-Midget (Age 11), Shannon captured state titles in the 3000 Meter and 1500 Meter Runs with times of 13:10.24 and 6:08.44 respectively. She also placed 5th in the 800 Meter run at 3:19.78.
